Mindfulness is the awareness of present moment with acceptance, which sounds simple and yet takes a lot of work and learning. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a set of techniques that teach us to have a better understanding of the events in our heads and to thus have more freedom and control over our thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
The Mindfulness Based CBT course series will be an experiential learning environment for mastering the skills of mindfulness and CBT. This is not a typical therapy group, and rather a workshop learning environment. Each person will go through their own individual learning process. Participants are invited to connect outside of the group for additional mindfulness skills discussion and practice. This course is a potential addition to, but not a replacement for, individual psychotherapy. The course can complement individual psychotherapy work.
Each course is a series of classes and to create a safe and consistent learning environment each course will be closed to new enrollment after the second class.
Mindfulness of sensations will involve optional gentle movement and restorative yoga poses in some of the classes. Participants can either sit in chairs, on yoga mats, on yoga/meditation cushions. Light breakfast snacks will be provided, as well as water and tea.
